Freedom
in the Classroom. The children are free to
move about the classroom at will, to talk with other
children, to work purposefully with any equipment, or to
ask the directress to introduce new materials to them.
Mixed-Age Classroom. The multi-age
classrooms offer many advantages to the children. A
child can work with older children in one subject,
younger children in another, and still have social
interaction with children his or her own age. This is a
wonderful solution to the problem of "skipping" and
"holding back" children who do not fit into the
traditional academic mold. Younger children observe
older children and easily learn from them; older
children reinforce the knowledge they have attained by
helping younger children.
